Street Team Updates

Phone bankers in the Conference room.

Phone bankers in the Conference room.

Last fall, we organized more than 15 Driver's License phonebanks and patched over 200constituent calls in key districts. As a result of the hard work from members of the hundreds of organizations in the coalition, the Work and Family Mobility Act (H.3012/S.2061) passed favorably out of the Transportation committee on February 6. Now we need to fight even harder to make sure the bill makes it onto the House Floor for a vote by the entire chamber before the session ends in July. Thanks so much to everyone who volunteered to phone bank.

The January 24, Safe Communities Act  (S.1401/H.3573) Hearing was packed with hundreds of supporters. The bill deadline has been extended until May 1. Thank you to all our JwJ Street Team volunteers who came to the hearing and/or volunteered.

Please take a moment to call your MA representatives to let them know you support these two bills to get them passed and signed into law before the legislative session ends on July 31. Use this tool to find their name and number. https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator . Let us know what you hear.

Our volunteers completed the TPS Data entry for the MA TPS Committee. Over 50 volunteers came to three data entry parties in Cambridge and helped to digitize over 4,000 records for theMassachusetts TPS Committee. Thank you to all the volunteers who joined us.

Welcome Yessenia Prodero, Jobs with Justice Immigrant Rights Organizer.

A few of our core Street Team volunteer organizers have left to work on 2020 political campaigns. If you are interested in joining us to help organize actions and events to support immigrant rights, please let us know. This is a time commitment of a few hours per month and it's a great opportunity to work with JwJ staff and learn how to organize actions and recruit volunteers.
